Summary:
The Literary Periodicals of the Epoch of Realism by Dušan Ivanić is the result of decades of dealing with Serbian periodicals, an undertaking featuring the participation of other collaborators of the project for studying periodicals. Proceeding from the methodological-theoretical issues contained in the Questionnaire by Dragiša Vitošević and Đorđije Vuković, Dušan Ivanić provides a systematic and coherent insight into all the types of Serbian periodicals dating from the late 1860’s to the early 20th century, striving to offer a parallel overview of the history of literary periodicals and the history of literature in periodicals.
Apart from literary-scientific and entertainment/education-oriented periodicals as the dominant forms of the literary periodicals of the era, Ivanić also deals with specialised publications (women’s, religious, children’s, professional ones...), calendars and almanacs, as well as political and political-literary publications, which also featured literary texts. Within each of the above wholes, the abundant contents of periodicals are presented by means of encyclopaedically detailed “portraits” of each periodical publication from the epoch of realism.
