Summary:
The monograph The Serbian Moderna consists of three thematic wholes. In the first part, the research focuses on the attitude of modernists towards the national folklore tradition, first of all its epic forms, as a representative form of the patriarchal cultural model. Myths and mythical patterns as an expression of collective memory were involved in various ways in the shaping of a new cultural model and the poetic trends of the first decades of the 20th century, which are dealt with in more detail in the middle section of the book.
In the final section, the author deals with some of the leading literary periodicals of the Serbian Moderna (Srpski književni glasnik [The Serbian Literary Herald], both periodicals entitled Zvezda [Star]), with a view to pointing to the broader ideological context of the literary phenomena involved, and also to reviewing them as a dynamic category that is present in the developmental social and cultural processes.
