Summary:

Dragana Grbić’s book TURNING POINTS. Halle – Leipzig, the Turning Point in the Life of Dositej Obradović / VORENTSCHEIDUNGEN. Halle – Leipzig, Wendepunkt im Leben von Dositej Obradović contains two studies in Serbian and German, wherein Dositej Obradović’s A Letter to Haralampi is analysed in the context of the Western European Enlightenment of the latter half of the 18th century. The introductory study sheds light, from a cultural-historical perspective, on Obradović’s studies at the universities in Halle and Leipzig, whereas the other study, through a systematic analysis, problematises the ideational foundations that bring the manifesto of Obradović’s Enlightenment into direct contact with the works of Johann Augustus Eberhard, Voltaire, Bayle, Lessing and Karl Anton Gottlob. The studies were translated into the German language by Professor Angela Richter, PhD. In addition to these studies, the book also contains translations of two original texts, which represent the basic hermeneutical source of this problematising study. Dositej Obradović’s A Letter to Haralampi was translated from the Serbian original into German by Eva Kowollik, while Johann Augustus Eberhard’s text On the Characteristics of the Enlightenment of a Nation was translated from the German original into Serbian by Dragana Grbić.
